Venerable Temples in Delhi

When it comes to temples in Delhi, you will find many of them spread across the city. While other areas like the President\’s Estate, Chandini Chowk, Old Delhi\’s India Gate, Rajpath, South Extension, Kavi Bazaar, Zaveri Bazaar, Barakhamba Road, Janpath, Prithviraj Road, Puri, Azad Maidan, Jor Bagh, and so many more are popular tourist spots; the city itself houses some of India\’s most beautiful temples, which are an absolute must-visit for your entire Delhi Darshan. The temples in Delhi vary greatly in terms of size, architecture, themes, settings, as well as faith-based. Some of the most beautiful temples in Delhi include Vrindavan, Jal Mahal, Lodi Maangal, Puri, Akbar\’s Tomb, Ekantar Buddha Temple, Khajuraho, Tirupati temple, Fatehpur Sikri, Ajmer Sharif, Kalka Devi Temple, etc. These temples have a unique charm and have helped transform Delhi into what it is today.

If we look at prominent temples in Delhi, then the list will be incomplete without the much talked about Bodhi Tree shrine. It is located at Faridpur on the outskirts of Delhi. Built over the grave of a scholar called Lord Krishna, it is one of the four major chakras or centers of worship in the entire Delhi. This shrine holds a special significance for all Hindus as it was built over the grave of their great leader. The construction of this temple was done by a Banqueting King named Swami Dhyan Singh, who used his own money in constructing this temple. Its construction marked the beginning of the Bhasma ceremony in which the body of the founder of the Indian religion was cremated on this shrine.

There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva at Ellora cave, near Alleppey. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the elephant-headed god, who is the son of the Earth and the sky. Another important shrines in Delhi are the Manavta Phool and Pragya Mandir. These two shrines are dedicated to Lord Shiva and the Hindu myth of reincarnation.

Shri Ram Chandar Nagar is the most visited temple in Delhi and is visited by tourists all the year round. It is dedicated to the great lord Krishna. It has a statue of lord Krishna with all the traits of a lord of yoga. The inside has a lot of paintings and sculptures depicting the various poses done by the lord in various positions. The Jain and Buddhists have their own shrines at Rameswaram and Ellora caves respectively. They are dedicated to their deities.

There are several other temples in Delhi such as the Shri Bal Krishna temple, Shri Ram Nagar temple, Shri Laxmi Nagar temple, Shri Mahalaxmi Temple, Shri Kalikadevi temple, Shri Harmindahalli temple, Shri Bhagwan Mahasaya temple, etc. These temples are dedicated to different deities. Every month, on the full moon of Karthik Purnima, devotees offer flowers and sweets to the deity, thereby offering homage to that particular deity. They also bless and show gratitude to the guards of the temple. Since this festival is celebrated during the full moon of the month of Karthik, all the temples in Delhi observe this special day.
